Thomas Boettner’s Straight Panic (USA) explores topics such as radical leftist rebellion, queer theory and heterophobia through the lens of misanthropy and the medium of power electronics. Thomas’ views are reiterated rigorously throughout the project's extensive back catalogue, a fine example of uncompromised transgressive art executed with sincerity.
Base Materialism is pleased to release Straight Panic—“The heavy sigh; the settling-in” on C20 cassette.
Side A sees Thomas pair some of his literary work, a poetic manifestation of personal thoughts, feelings and anxieties—read in a clean voice with machine like synth, razor thin noise, tape skips and a heavily processed backing vocal thats mostly indistinguishable content injects tones of paranoia into the already unsettling track.
Side B is made up of engine-esque slow moving synth and fronted with a phaser heavy vocal, a combination true to industrial power electronics. As the track progresses a dreamy yet melancholic synth is introduced and soon after the vocal becomes more aggressive—displaying a balance of beauty and pain.
The overall feel of the release is an unfiltered look into the mind of another, an exposure of personal feelings and thoughts expressed without an ounce of weakness.

I cannot praise this album enough. This album is absolutely terrifying! The many starts and stops creates this very h settling tension. Each start expands on the stopper idea previously. It’s like the music equivalent of walking through thick fog while passing out multiple times throughout trying to find a place to orientate yourself. There may or may not be something sinister in that fog, but you don’t want to stick around to find out. Bought the vinyl so I summon the fog demons through spe showhornwithteeth
